The Kniss family, from Thornton, Colorado, was one of five families honored at the CDHS luncheon in recognition of National Adoption Month. Kevin and Kelly are the proud parents of five children, three of whom were adopted from the foster care system. Their story of becoming an adoptive family started in 2006 when they got a call about their daughter Sierra. She was at children’s hospital because of her medical needs. The call came while at Whole Foods and they ended up spending a lot of time there that day, talking, sipping on coffee, and asking themselves “are we doing the right thing?” Kevin says Kelly was in sheer panic mode but finally said “yeah, we’ve got to do this.” This was followed by adopting their daughter Aaliyah in 2010 and their son Owen (Sierra’s biological brother) in May 2014. It has taken great patience to get the Kniss Family to where they are today and we are so thankful that you all have found one another.
